Toei Subway
The Toei Subway was created in 1960 as the subway portion of the Bureau of Transportation Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which already operated street cars throughout Tokyo. The first line to be opened was the Toei Asakusa Line that currently connects Nishi-magome with Asakusa, both in Tokyo.
The Toei Subway owns four lines: the Asakusa Line, the Mita Line, the Shinjuku Line and the Ōedo Line. Not a single one of these lines operate on the same type of tracks and therefore cannot share rolling stock.
Some members of the Metropolitan Government want to privatize the Toei Subway and combine it with Tokyo Metro. However, the Toei Subway has gone through many financial issues and neither side has made any final decisions about the matter.
