In 2008, Tokyu started operating express trains on the Ōimachi Line in an attempt to turn it into a bypass for people commuting on the Denentoshi Line into Tokyo. The 6000 Series was designed exclusively for this role. The design is based heavily on the Tokyu 5000 Series but has slant-nosed end cars, giving it an aerodynamic look. It is currently the only train on the Ōimachi Line operated with six cars. The 6000 Series is not designed to be used as a local train because most stations on the Ōimachi Line only have room for five cars at the most. |
